The Emotional Colour Wheel Poster

This item was designed to be paired with the book, "The Emotional Colour Wheel" from Firehouse Publications, but is useful on its own as well. Designed by an art teacher for art teachers, this can be a great jumping off point to a discussion of the emotional meanings behind many colours. By no means a complete list. It is based on global interpretations of colour in a general way. For instance, red is globally recognised as the colour of blood and will have many aggressive attributes, however in China, red is the colour of celebrations and weddings. Discussions of local and global meanings for colour are part of the broader discussion one can have about the meanings of colour. Art teachers may find this a helpful resource for creating works based on Jackson Pollock paintings that go beyond just "throwing paint." It allows for greater depth and expression when artists tie colours to specific emotional values. Why colour a still life with the 'real" colours when you can paint with the colours that express how you feel about the objects. Paint a portrait based on your relationship or perception of that person. Artists can go beyond representing what they see into the world of how they feel.
