The Espousal of the Virgin Poster

A popular subject in sacred art, and a suitable gift for engaged or newly-wedded couples, this illustration depicts the moment when S. Joseph was espoused to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the presence of the High Priest, sometimes traditionally said to have been Mary's cousin-in-law Zacharias, husband of Elizabeth. The Virgin's parents, Joachim and Anne, appear at the upper left and right corners of the image, while S. Joseph bears the miraculously-flowering staff which marked him out among the Virgin's prospective suitors; the jewelled dove worked into his headdress also recalls the legend of his divinely-inspired election as the Virgin's most chaste spouse and protector in this world.

The print was packaged well to ensure there was no damage during transit (Eco friendly, too!), and I am really pleased with it. The colours were rich and the image sharp.
