The Fall of Icarus is a painting by the under-rated Victorian painter Alexandre Cabanel. In the Classic myth, Minos imprisoned Daedalus and his son Icarus, fearing the divine craftsmen skill would become a threat to his kingdom. Daedalus devised wings for them to escape, but Icarus' exuberance carried him to close to the sun, causing his fall. The sensitive rendering of the painting reflects the meaning of myth in conversation with the Christian myth of the fall from Grace.
