Frederick Carl Frieseke was a leading American Impressionist painter who spent most of his life living and painting in France. As you can see in “The Garden Parasol,” his paintings often concentrated on the beautiful and various effects of dappled sunlight. Here, also, are the vibrant colours of the stunning Japanese parasol. The setting for this painting is the garden of Frederick Carl Frieseke and his wife, Sadie, who created the garden. Sadie is the seated woman reading a book. Looking at “the Garden Parasol,” you can feel the quiet pleasure of a summer in the French countryside.

The colours were rich and the image sharp.
