The Last Drop of Beer Before the Party Ends Magnet

This design features a painting by the artist Judith Leyster (1609–1660), who was active during the Dutch Golden Age. It shows two male figures partying and engaged in revelry, enjoying beer and cigarettes together. The scene is set on the night before the beginning of Lent, when people would frequently go on binges in order to prepare themselves for the coming period of fasting and abstinence. The two men do not even notice the skeleton that stands beside them, reminding us that they will pay a cost for their reckless dissipation. The skeleton is holding an ominous hourglass in one of its bony hands and a skull in the other. The original artwork was painted by Judith Leyster circa 1629.
