The Oregon Trail Poster

"The Oregon Trail" was painted by Albert Bierstadt in 1869, an American-German landscape painter. He was well known for his landscapes of the American West. In order to paint these beautiful pictures, he joined many travels of the Westward Expansion. His illuminated landscapes became well known during the rest of the nineteenth century as he captured the lights and shadows of the mountains, sea, and plains of the American West in his paintings. He was part of a group of painters who painted in a style called "The Hudson River School". This group of painters created large landscapes of lighted horizons and skies. They painted in great detail creating a romantic luminated (luminism) landscape.
