The Oyster Girl (by Karl Gussow) Tile

This design features a painting by the German artist Karl Gussow (1843–1907). It depicts a woman from a traditional fishing community. She is holding a large plate containing prepared oysters. She is wearing an elegant dress and corset with a silk scarf around her shoulders. She also has a black scarf wrapped around her brown hair. She is a beautiful young woman with a friendly face: she has blue eyes and red lips. Her milky white skin is on display around her neck and her bare arms. The oysters look delicious and they have been served with a lemon, so that its juice can be squeezed over the shellfish. The original artwork was painted by Karl Gussow in 1882.
