This is the room where, in public, the Queen gave birth to the heirs to the throne. The moment that it was announced that the Queen, Marie Antoinette would give birth, the crowds of spectators would rush into her room, so numerous and disorderly that one thought the Queen would perish. The "gate" in front of the bed helped a little bit to keep them at bay. Today, visitors can feast their eyes on the ornate details of the royal bedchamber, instead of labour and childbirth.
