The Virgin and Child with St Anne and St John Poster

Sometimes called the Burlington House Cartoon. It is an unfinished charcoal study for a painting that was never done. It features, The virgin Mary, the Christ child, St John the Baptist, and St Anne (Mary's Mother). In 1962, it was put up for sale for £800,000. The British were afraid it would find an American buyer, so, they instead, had people donate to look at it, in 4 short months the price was met and it stayed in the United Kingdom. This piece of art was shot at in 1987 with a sawed of shot gun. Although it was protected by a very thick glass pane, it still caused damage and has been restored.
