Title of Liberty: Book of Mormon Story T-Shirt

Ezra Taft Benson, former US Secretary of Agriculture and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, said this about the Gadiantons, who are the subject of this shirt: "In the ancient American civilisation there was no word which struck greater terror to the hearts of the people than the name of the Gadiantons. It was a secret political party which operated as a murder cult. Its object was to infiltrate legitimate government, plant its officers in high places, and then seize power and live off the spoils appropriated from the people. It would start out as a small group of "dissenters" and by using secret oaths with the threat of death for defectors it would gradually gain a choke hold on the political and economic life of whole civilisations. The object of the Gadiantons, like modern communists/(statist), was to destroy the existing government and set up a ruthless criminal dictatorship over the whole land. The Book of Mormon tells the story of Captain Moroni, a military leader, who saw his free society and representative government succumbing to the Gadiantons and their monarchical ambitions. Alma Chapter 46 tells about how he took his cloak, tore and fashioned it into a banner, and wrote upon it, "IN MEMORY OF OUR GOD, OUR RELIGION, AND FREEDOM, AND OUR PEACE, OUR WIVES AND OUR CHILDREN. "He used this banner, which he called the "Title of Liberty" to rally his fellow free men, and they eventually fought and overcame the Gadiantons. On the back of the shirt is a quote from the same Pres. Ezra Taft Benson: "OUR STAND FOR FREEDOM IS A MOST BASIC PART OF OUR RELIGION; THIS STAND HELPED GET US TO THIS EARTH, AND OUR REACTION TO FREEDOM IN THIS LIFE WILL HAVE ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES. MAN HAS MANY DUTIES, BUT HE HAS NO EXCUSE THAT CAN COMPENSATE FOR THE LOSS OF LIBERTY. Today we are facing the same group of people. They bear a different name, but have the same philosophy.
