Toulouse-Lautrec - Divan Japonais Tile

Divan Japonais (1892–93) is a celebrated advertisement poster and colour lithograph created for the reopening of the fashionable Montmartre cabaret after its Japanese-inspired refurbishment. Toulouse-Lautrec places dancer Jane Avril in the audience beside writer Édouard Dujardin, while singer Yvette Guilbert performs onstage, recognisable by her signature long black gloves. Flat areas of colour, bold silhouettes, dramatic cropping, and the influence of Japanese woodblock prints give the poster its striking Belle Époque style.
