The Bed (Le Lit), painted around 1892, offers a quieter counterpart to In Bed, The Kiss: two women rest close together beneath a rich red coverlet, their faces turned towards one another in calm, tender repose rather than passionate embrace. Warm tones and loose, painterly brushwork give the scene an intimate, unguarded stillness.
