Tower of Babel (1563) by Peter Bruegel the Elder is a vintage Renaissance Era fine art religious painting featuring the construction of a building. The tower represents classic Roman architecture with its numerous arches and other examples of Roman engineering. It is deliberately reminiscent of the Roman Colosseum, which Christians of the time saw as both a symbol of hubris and persecution.
