Trees are life. In the tropics, they hold water, create a more humid atmosphere, can "call" the rain, and combat climate change. They are also seen as obstacles to greater production by many farmers who clear cut to create pasture land or fields for cultivation, resulting in eventual reduced fertility, drier soil, lower production. Each tree is unique, fascinating, filled with life from its roots to its leaves to the multitudes living among its branches and on its bark, from birds to bugs to moss. This is a stylised design of a local tree called cambará. On its roots grow boletus mushrooms. On its trunk can be found moss, orchids, epiphytic cacti. Tapuio is a real area, but it is also representative of every small rural area ignored by biologists, ravaged by hunters and farmers, destroyed with little compensation. I am trying to raise awareness about this area, and by doing so, raise awareness about every small spot of forest often ignored by those who work to save forests and wildlife, ignored because it is not seen as pristine enough, not comfortable enough, not remote enough. Tapuio represents the overwhelming majority of devastated spaces, devastated wildlife areas, around the world.
