The concept of a "Tree of Life" is common to many cultures whereby a tree with deep searching roots and high soaring branches depicted for many, the the earth and the heavens. Man saw the Cosmos as a mystically creative and inspiring realm far above, and the Earth as the plane upon which creative action was carried out.
