Tristan and Isolde (1905) by JW Waterhouse is a vintage Victorian Era Pre-Raphaelite fine art portrait painting featuring a young couple in love. The story of Tristan and Isolde is a quintessential romance of the Middle Ages and of the Renaissance Era. Several versions of the story exist, the earliest dating to the middle of the 12th century. Tristan and Isolde depicts the young couple when Tristan is sent to Ireland to bring Isolde the Fair back to Cornwall to be the bride of his uncle, King Mark. Isolde is about to drink a potion that will bind them in eternal love.
