“The Salting Carpet”, c1860-1880; Turkish, Ottoman Period; Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
The art of carpet weaving was particularly significant in the Ottoman Empire, carpets having an immense importance both as decorative furnishings, rich in religious and other symbolism, and as a practical consideration, as it was customary to remove one's shoes in living quarters. The weaving of such carpets originated in the nomadic cultures of central Asia (carpets being an easily-transportable form of furnishing), and was eventually spread to the settled societies of Anatolia. Turks used carpets, rugs and kilims not just on the floors of a room, but also as a hanging on walls and doorways, where they provided additional insulation. They were also commonly donated to mosques, which often amassed large collections of them.

Very impressive product! The canvas is sturdily made. It features a saw tooth hanger on the back, making it easy to "try out" the canvas in several rooms until I found the best location. It attracts good comments from my friends. I love it! The printing is wonderful! Colors are as bright and crisp as they appeared on the website.

I bought this for our own home. It turned out beautifully, and I would recommend it to anyone who has concerns about the quality of the product. The printing turned out perfect. I did have some concerns how printing would turn out. Would the colors be accurate to the original painting's colors ? Yes. Would the sides look right? Yes. Would the bend affect the presentation? No, it's beautiful.
I took these pictures hurriedly, on a dark, rainy day, and the room is not particularly light any time. Regretfully, the photos do not do justice to the artwork.
