Tweeting blue bird c.1900 Mother wild goose CC1154 Postcard

I was reading and old book for children the other day (Mother wild goose and her wild beast show, c. 1900). One of the illustrated verses really made my imagination wander: Mary, Mary, my canary, How does your new song go? With "sweet, sweet sweet" and "tweet, tweet, tweet" And pretty trills all in a row. So the twitter bird is really a canary, I thought. An opera star in plumage tweeting sweet song and "pretty trills all in a row"... I couldn't help myself, I just had to try to make the songbird blue, the same colour as the twitter bird. What would the result be, would other people be able to follow my line of thought? The whole book was actually quite entertaining, words and pictures still worked, at least for me. So it's a little strange that the artist is so little known today, he's not even in Wikipedia. Here's a few facts about him. His name was Lewis Jesse Bridgman (1857-1931), he lived in Massachusetts, and was a very prolific illustrator of children’s books and historical sketches.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
