Two horses in pasture near fence 1649 Paulus Potter "Two Horses in a Meadow near a Gate" is a 1649 painting by Paulus Potter that depicts two horses standing on a rise in a meadow landscape with cattle. In the distance, there is a meadow with cows and the profile of a city. Paulus Potter was a Dutch painter who specialised in animals within landscapes, usually with a low vantage point. Before Potter died of tuberculosis at the age of 28 he succeeded in producing about 100 paintings, working continuously.
