UNESCO WHS - Alcazaba of Mérida Postcard

UNESCO WHS Serie - World Heritage Sites in Spain Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida / Conjunto arqueológico de Mérida - The colony of Augusta Emerita, which became present-day Mérida, was founded in 25 BC at the end of the Spanish Campaign and was the capital of Lusitania. The well-preserved remains of the old city include, in particular, a large bridge over the Guadiana, an amphitheatre, a theatre, a vast circus and an exceptional water-supply system. It is an excellent example of a provincial Roman capital during the empire and in the years afterwards. The Puente Romano is a Roman bridge over the Guadiana River at Mérida. It is the world's longest surviving bridge from ancient times, having once featured an estimated overall length of 755 m with 62 spans. Today, there are 60 spans on a length of 721 m. The Alcazaba of Mérida is a Muslim fortification located near the Roman Bridge over the Guadiana river. It was built in 835 and it was the first Muslim alcazaba (a type of fortification in the Iberian peninsula). Name: Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida Site: Guadiana River Dam, Puente Romano, Alcazaba / Alcazaba, embalse y puente romano sobre el Guadiana Country: Spain Location: Province of Badajoz, Extremadura Inscription: 1993 Category: Cultural (iii)(iv) Unesco Ref: 664-004 Special Feature: The card has a QR-Code on the backside to navigate for more Informations about the site.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
