UNESCO WHS - Catedral de Sevilla Postcard

UNESCO WHS Serie - World Heritage Sites in Spain Cathedral, Alcázar and Archivo de Indias in Seville / Catedral, Alcázar y Archivo de Indias en Sevilla The cathedral and the Alcázar, dating from the Reconquest of 1248 to the 16th century and imbued with Moorish influences, are an exceptional testimony to the civilisation of the Almohads as well as that of Christian Andalusia. The Giralda minaret is the masterpiece of Almohad architecture. Together these three buildings form a remarkable monumental complex in the heart of Seville. Almohad caliph Abu Yaqub Yusuf ordered the construction of a new grand mosque for the city in 1172. The new mosque was dedicated in 1182, but was not completed until 1198. Shortly after the Reconquista it was converted into the city's cathedral. In July 1401, Sevilles leaders decided to build a new gothic cathedral to replace the grand mosque. The cathedral with its 5 naves is the largest Gothic building in Europe and one of the largest churches in the world. Its royal chapel holds the remains of the city's conqueror, King Ferdinand III of Castile and it houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
