UNESCO WHS - Mitsubishi Senshokaku Guest House Postcard

UNESCO WHS Serie - Title: Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining - 明治日本の産業革命遺産 製鉄・製鋼、造船、石炭産業 Subtitle: Nagasaki Shipyard - Mitsubishi Senshokaku Guest House - 長崎造船所 占勝閣 Description: The site encompasses a series of 23 component parts, mainly located in the southwest of Japan. It bears testimony to the rapid industrialisation of the country from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century, through the development of the iron and steel industry, shipbuilding and coal mining. The site illustrates the process by which feudal Japan sought technology transfer from Europe and America from the middle of the 19th century and how this technology was adapted to the country’s needs and social traditions. Senshokaku Guest House was originally designed as a residence of the Shipyard’s Director and was designed by Tatsuzo Sone, who was taught by Josiah Conder at the Imperial College of Engineering. Since its completion in 1904, it has been used as a guesthouse in which to entertain important clients of the shipyard. Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
