This purity of form can still be seen in the Gothic cathedral and the fortifications which are the most complete in Spain. Despite having undergone a major remodeling in the 16th century, the Hermitage of San Segundo maintains some original romanesque elements dating from the 13th century. In 1519 a tomb was found with the remains of San Segundo, the legendary first bishop of Ávila.
