"Upshur County Courthouse, Gilmer, Texas" by Catherine Sherman. The Texas flag was flying proudly in front of the Upshur County Courthouse in Gilmer, Texas, on an October afternoon. A larger American flag was flying overhead, not seen in the photograph. A memorial to American soldiers stands in front of the courthouse. Built in 1933, this is the fifth courthouse building in Upshur County. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. The first of the five Upshur county courthouse buildings was established in 1846. The county seat is the city of Gilmer, which is in northeast Texas. The courthouse is brick and designed in a modern style.
