five are white and the Sun of May with human face and sixteen sun rays.
Nine stripes blue and white indicate nine Uruguayan provinces, which were
created after the liberation from Brazil in 1828. Uruguay was also ruled by
Spanish and Portuguese, and it was called "Banda Oriental"
