    Van Gogh Vase with Pink Roses Flowers Painting Large Coffee Mug

    Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853 - 1890) Vase with Pink Roses, 1890, Oil on canvas, 71 cm x 90 cm. Painted in the psychiatric hospital at Saint-Remy, before Van Gogh was set to check out. The painting reflects the optimism he had for his future, both in his choice of colour and the flowers he chose to paint. That sense is given by the fresh green of the background, which give a feeling of spring. The diagonal strokes seem to animate the canvas and play off of flowers and leaves. Though the roses appear more white now, the original colour was pink which you can still faintly see providing a complimentary contrast to the green background.     Purchase of the 7th Cavalry Mug was a last minute addition to my purchases and I am really pleased I acquired the Mug. The one I purchased was a "large" but wow, it is large - Extremely well made and just to Mug to put down at a coffee time with a bunch of mates. Early days, but the colours and motifs (there are two) withstand the washing and look great.
