Van Westervelt Coat of Arms Foil Note Card
Van Westervelt Coat of Arms Foil Note Card ... You can put your coat of arms on a beautiful foil note card in this way with your own family name and country. These can make nice invitation cards, or personal Thank You cards, or personal memorial cards.
The family name in the United States of America is Westerfield, Westervelt, or Van Westervelt ... which came from the Dutch family name Van Westervelt also spelled Van Westerveldt or Van Westerveld ... after the Dutch family manor house turned into a castle or kasteel very close to and just North of Zwolle in Over-Ijssel Province. The name of the castle on old maps is variously spelled Westervelt, Westerveldt, or Westerveld. If you search for old maps for Zwolle or for Over-Ijssel / Overijssel Province and look closely enough you will be able to see where this was. The castle is no longer there. It was built by a carpenter from Zwolle and so mostly was a wooden structure that eventually had to be demolished by the 1800s.
The first family immigrants William and Lubbert immigrated with their wives and children on the Ship Hoop (Hope) to America in 1662 to an area then called New Amsterdam which later was taken by the English and renamed New York. These immigrant brothers were wealthy enough to buy land in America and were listed as being from Meppel in Drenthe Province just North of the castle Westerveld (in Overijssel). They raised cattle on land just South West of Meppel which would be just North of the land of Westerveld Castle which was still there at that time. Westervelt / Westerveldt / Westeveld castle was very near where the Protestant Dutch won a battle against invading Catholic Spanish. The area around Westerveld and around the River Ijssel was called Salaland or Salland. To the West of Salland and River Over-Ijssel was the Duchy of Gelderland also spelled Gelder or Gelre or Guelders where a fishing town called Harderwijk was on the sea coast and which was ruled by the family Van Westervelt who were called Dutch Burgermasters (hereditary mayors) for several generations whose family coat of arms had three gold fleurs de lis on a green shield and above was the knight's helmet and ducal coronet crown through which knight's arms held a larger gold fleur de lis.
These gold fleur de lis were symbols from the golden yellow irises which grew along the green shore of the River Ijssel. The fleur de lis symbol was given to the Frank / Merovingian King Clovis I who won a battle just South West of Duchy Gelre and then King Clovis I became baptised as a Christian per his promise to God if he won the battle.
In America the family moved away from the English, eventually moving into Kentucky having bought land there from Danial Boone's brother Squire Boone. Leah Westerfeld married William Stafford Danial Boone's buddy. Her brother Samuel Leander Westerfield moved to Ohio. Then, his sons moved to Illinois ... one to Knoxville in Knox County, the other to Canton in Fulton County. My ancestor Jacob Reeder Westerfield was the one who moved to Knox County. His wife was directly descended from the Mayflower Pilgrims John and Priscilla Alden.

This card is printed on bright white and very sturdy card stock. To be honest, I was unsure of how the gold foil would look, as it was hard to tell by the sample photo but I was not disappointed. The gold foil is beautiful~. The print quality is fantastic!
