Wild swans (Cygne sauvage in French) swimming in a pond illustration by Maurice Pillard Verneuil (1869-1942). M. P. Verneuil was a French artist and designer of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. This illustration is from his 1897 book, L’animal dans la Décoration or The Animals in Decoration, which features collages of birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles and mammals in decorative art applications such as wallpaper, murals, furnishings and textiles.
