I got this marvellous image from a stack of stack of 1890s-1910 mounted prints owned by a retired antiques dealer, many of which originally appeared in the newspapers of the time. True fact: back in the day, the Philadelphia Inquirer would publish full-size, full-colour prints ever Sunday. Some of what I have are these original Inquirer prints. However, this lovely image came from a magazine of the period, and was captioned ‘Handsome Evening Toilettes.’ I can’t find any clothing-related definition of that word. The color is perhaps a little lighter than what I thought it would be, but it is tricky to see on screen when you order. I am waiting for another set that this should match to, holding thumbs. These are the most beautiful towels I have ever seen. The only thing is - I am too scared to use them. I am worried that the colour will disappear when I wash them! The printing is beautiful as long as the towel fibres are all facing the right way. They look amazing. just looks like the photo above
