About This Design

Vincent van Gogh - Cypresses Tile

Cypresses, painted in 1889 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Van Gogh became fascinated by the dark cypresses around Saint-Rémy, comparing their lines and proportions to an Egyptian obelisk and calling them a difficult dark note in a sunlit landscape. This close vertical view pushes the trees towards the viewer, with dense green forms twisting against a lively sky. Painted soon after he began exploring the countryside beyond the hospital grounds, the canvas was later shown at the 1890 Salon des Indépendants.

My fiancé and I were happy when we received the tile. It’s Peru and was worth paying extra for expressing postage. Good quality and it is exactly like we wanted it. We are very pleased.
