An insect, the Emperor Moth, in a spring garden with Calla Lily flowers and other plants. Van Gogh called it a 'death's-head moth' and painted a skull on the back of its body. About the artist: Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Post-Impressionist painter whose work was most noteable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty, and bold colour.
