Landscape at Twilight / Landscape with the Chateau of Auvers at Sunset, painted in 1890 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise. This unusually wide canvas looks across the fields near Auvers towards the château as the light fades. Van Gogh used the panoramic format for a small group of late landscapes, stretching village, fields and sky into a long horizontal rhythm. The greenish evening sky and darkened foreground give the scene a quiet tension very different from the brilliant daylight of many earlier Provençal works.
