Vincent van Gogh - Roses Notebook

Roses / Still Life: Pink Roses in a Vase, painted in 1890 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Van Gogh painted these roses just before leaving Saint-Rémy, as part of a small group of four large flower still lifes. The blossoms were originally much pinker than they appear today, but unstable red pigments faded over time, leaving the bouquet paler. Broad strokes, dark outlines and the green vase turn the flowers into a study of colour relationships rather than a conventional botanical arrangement.
