About This Design

Vincent van Gogh - Sloping Path in Montmartre Tile

Vincent van Gogh - Sloping Path in Montmartre Tile

Sloping Path in Montmartre, painted in 1886 in oil on cardboard on multiplex board by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Paris. A small path climbs through the uneven ground of Montmartre, with vegetation and distant figures compressed into a compact vertical study. Painted shortly after Van Gogh arrived in Paris, the work still retains subdued earth colours while beginning to loosen the handling of landscape. Its cardboard support and modest scale give it the direct, experimental quality of an artist testing a new urban environment.

My fiancé and I were happy when we received the tile. It’s Peru and was worth paying extra for expressing postage. Good quality and it is exactly like we wanted it. We are very pleased.
