Vincent van Gogh - The Sower Key Ring

The Sower, painted in 1888 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Arles. A solitary sower strides across the field, scattering seed in a subject Van Gogh had admired since his early studies of Millet. Painted during his first summer in Arles, the scene reduces the land and figure to strong shapes and broad colour relationships. The repeated gesture of sowing gave Van Gogh a rural motif that linked everyday labour with ideas of growth, renewal and the cycle of the seasons.
