Vintage artwork by Edwin Megargee depicts a beautiful Pointer dog in the field, alert to every move it sees, tail pointed and head and ears raised. The American artist, etcher and illustrator, Edwin Megargee (1883-1958) was best known for his portraits and illustrations of animals. A profound animal lover, Megargee endeavored to study the anatomy and skeletal structure of animals and birds so as to be able to paint them exactly as they appear with precise attention to detail. He grew up in Philadelphia, and by the time he was a teenager, he had convinced his father that he could make a career of his artwork. As an adult, he bred and painted gun dogs. He was on the board of directors of the American Kennel Club and illustrated several dog dictionaries. The running greyhound dog logo of the Greyhound Bus Company was designed by Megargee.
