Vintage - Beach Day for Cats,

Vintage artwork by Louis Wain features a crowded beach where cats and dogs from a bygone era relax on the beach together. In the foreground are two cat mothers sitting in beach chairs watching their kittens play in the sand. Beyond them is a dog mother with her two pups. In the background are changing tents where beach-goers change into their very modest bathing costumes. The British artist, Louis Wain (1860-1939) was best known for his drawings which consistently featured large-eyed anthropomorphised cats and kittens. Over his career, he illustrated around 100 children’s books and his work appeared on postcards, newspapers, journals and magazines including his own Louis Wain Annual magazine which ran for 16 years.
