Vintage - Children Set Sail in a Basket,

A vintage illustration by Clara M. Burd of two little girls and a little boy on a beautiful sunny day playing in a meadow in the shade of a tree. The three are in a large wicker basket "sailing" on the grassy meadow with an umbrella deployed as a "sail." The boy stands in the basket with a long wooden pole he uses as an "oar" or "rudder." One girl leans over the side to pick some wild flowers as if she's picking them from the sea. The American artist, Clara M. Burd (1873-1933) was born in New York, and studied art in New York City and later in Paris. She is best known for her illustrations for children’s books, but she also illustrated for magazine covers, designed stained glass and murals for churches, and painted children’s portraits and scenes from historical periods.
