Vintage Japanese Lantern Ghost Yokai Key Ring
This round keychain is a reproduction of a Chochin-obake, as depicted in the "Bakemono Konrei Emaki" (化物婚礼絵巻, Ghost Wedding Scroll). This one-eyed paper lantern was drawn by an unknown artist sometime during the Edo period of Japan, between the early 1600s to the mid 1800s.
The Chōchin-obake (提灯お化け, "paper lantern ghost") is a type of tsukumogami (付喪神, "artefact spirit") in Japanese folklore. On a paper lantern's hundredth birthday, the lantern comes to life! Make sure you treat your possessions well!
