Vintage Yokai Otoroshi- Japanese Monster Key Ring

This keychain is a replica of a picture scroll drawn by Sawaki Suushi in 1737, part of the Hyakkai-Zukan, or The Illustrated Volume of a Hundred Spirits. The yokai, or spirit, depicted here is named Otoroshi. Otoroshi (おとろし) is an ogre-like monster with lots of hair. There is no historical information about this yokai's behaviours, but in the modern era, he is interpreted as lurking atop torii gates at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. He springs down on troublemakers when they pass by.
