Pioneers, frontiersmen, cowboys, Native American Indians, covered wagons with horses, cows, cattle and sheep. These people and livestock are travelling through the mountains, plains, forests and rivers to find a new life in the wild west. It's evening and the sun is setting in the west behind the trees casting a beautiful warm glow. About the artist: Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902) was a German-American painter best known for his lush, sweeping landscapes of the American West. Bierstadt joined several journeys of the Westward Expansion. He was part of the Hudson River School whose style involved carefully detailed paintings with romantic, almost glowing lighting, sometimes called luminism.
