About This Design

Vintage - Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary,

Vintage - Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary,

A vintage illustration by Clara M. Burd from the children's nursery rhyme "Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary" which first appeared in "Tom Thumb's Pretty Song Book" published in 1744. The first line of the rhyme originally started as "Mistress Marty, quite contrary" but in more modern versions, it has become "Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells and cockle shells and pretty maids all in a row." The American artist, Clara M. Burd (1873-1933) was born in New York, and studied art in New York City and later in Paris. She is best known for her illustrations for children’s books, but she also illustrated for magazine covers, designed stained glass and murals for churches, and painted children’s portraits and scenes from historical periods. I love how my "Happy Pupcrossing!" postcard turned out! It's so pretty! Zazzle prints top notch postcards and greeting cards! This postcard is available in my online Zazzle shop without the text on it if you're not a Postcrosser. The easiest way to find my Zazzle shop is through my associate link which is located on the navigation bar of my artist website Ink Goes Wild Alaska. I earn a little extra profit when you use that link. Corinne Danzl Ink Goes Wild Alaska.
