The English artist and illustrator, Henry Justice Ford (1860-1941) often signed his work H. J. Ford. He first became well known for his illustrations for 25 collections of Andrew Lang’s fairy books which sold worldwide in the 1880s and 1890s. Lang titled his books using colours such as “The Red Fairy” and “The Green Fairy.” Ford also exhibited landscapes and paintings of historical subjects at the Royal Academy of Art.
