Appleton from the old Scottish nursery rhyme "Wee Wee Willie Winkie" with an 1844 paraphrased version for English speakers that starts out as, "Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town, Up stairs and down stairs in his night-gown, Tapping at the window, crying at the lock, Are the children in their bed, for it's past ten o'clock?" Honour C. Appleton (1879-1951) was an English illustrator and artist who illustrated over 150 books in her career, beginning with children’s books and moving to literary classics.
