Vintgar Gorge Slovenia Postcard

Vintgar Gorge, carved by the Radovna River, is one of Slovenia's most breathtaking natural treasures. Located just a few kilometres from the iconic Lake Bled in the Upper Carniola region, the canyon stretches approximately 1.6 kilometres between the vertical walls of the Hom and Boršt hills. Visitors traverse the gorge via a network of historic wooden walkways and bridges known as the Žumer Galleries, which cling to the sheer stone cliffs and offer an intimate view of the rushing, crystal-clear turquoise waters below. The journey through the gorge is a sensory masterpiece of rushing rapids, deep emerald pools, and steep limestone walls covered in lush green moss and ferns. The trail culminates in the spectacular Šum Waterfall, a 13-metre-high river waterfall that stands as the largest of its kind in Slovenia. Framed by a stone railway bridge overhead, the falls plunge into a deep pool, creating a misty, magical atmosphere that captures the pristine alpine beauty of the region.
