Violet carpenter bee postcard
Xylocopa violacea or Violet Carpenter Bee of central and southern Europe is a large solitary bee that tunnels into wood to make it's nest. They are particularly fond of wisteria flowers. They are generally black in appearance but the wings have a lovely violet sheen in the right light. The yellow on the back of this one is pollen.
