Willets are large sandpiper-like birds commonly found on the coast, foraging along the sandy shorelines, in bays, mudflats, and estuaries. They are rather drab grey in appearance until they unfold their wings. Then you will see the flashy black and white wing pattern that is hidden most of the time. We took this image just as the sun was setting along the shoreline of the marina in Morro Bay, California.
