About This Design

William Turner - Approach to Venice Tile

William Turner - Approach to Venice Tile

Approach to Venice, painted in 1844 in oil on canvas by British Romantic painter Joseph Mallord William Turner. It captures Venice at a luminous, dreamlike threshold between day and night. A full moon rises as the setting sun still glows over the lagoon, while barges and gondolas move towards the distant city. Painted late in Turner’s career, the work reflects his fascination with Venice and his mastery of atmospheric light, colour and water, with architecture dissolving into a golden haze.

My fiancé and I were happy when we received the tile. It’s Peru and was worth paying extra for expressing postage. Good quality and it is exactly like we wanted it. We are very pleased.
