About This Design

William Turner - The Sun Setting Through Vapour Coffee Mug

William Turner - The Sun Setting Through Vapour Coffee Mug

The Sun Setting Through Vapour, painted in 1809 in oil on canvas by British Romantic painter Joseph Mallord William Turner (J. M. W. Turner). The composition places fishermen and boats within a coastal scene dominated by the setting sun filtering through mist. The low light dissolves sea, sky and distant forms into warm atmosphere, anticipating Turner's lifelong fascination with weather, vapour and the power of light to transform a landscape.
