Windsor Wings Tie
When the Detroit Red Wings joined the NHL in 1926, the team's arena, The Olympia, was still a year away from completion of construction. Thus, the team had to play its first season home games across the border in the Canadian city of Windsor, Ontario at the Border Cities Arena. Windsorites may fantasize of what might have been had the team stayed in Canuck territory. Perhaps they could have been called the Windsor Wings. As the logo demonstrates, a big red W is the focal point that stands for both Windsor and Wings, flanked on each side by two large red wings. Above is the Ambassodor Bridge spanning the letter W, which is the bridge that one would cross from Detroit to Windsor. Beneath the W is a semi circle which represents the river bed of the Detroit River. Finally, at the bottom is a pair of dice which symbolises Casino Windsor and the gambling aspect of fantasy sports. Overall, the logo was designed to have a hood ornament appearance, paying tribute to the automotive industry which is a big part of Windsor and Detroit.
